Indigenenes of Oyo State under the auspice of ‘Concerned Oyo Indigenes’, (COI), has urged Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state to support the candidature of Hon. Segun Odebunmi (Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa federal constituency) of the All Progressives Congress for the position of Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Igbere TV reports.
The group’s Coordinator, Kehinde Adewole, berated Ajimobi for pitching tent with Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila from Lagos state despite the marginalization of the people of Oyo state in national appointments.
While stressing that bulk of the federal appointments from the South West, were shared among the people of Lagos and Ogun states, the group admonished the APC leadership to consider Odebunmi for the plum job.
Reaffirming their confidence in the third-term legislator, Adewole noted that Odebunmi has the political dexterity, legislative acumen and inter-personal skills to drive the affairs of the green chamber.
Addressing its volunteers on Monday in Ibadan, the group urged the South West leadership of the APC to zone the position of Speaker of the green chamber, to Oyo state for the sake of unity in the party,
He said, “following the decision of the APC to zone the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives to the South West, we call on the top echelon to support Hon. Segun Odebunmi from Oyo state.
” Oyo State has been marginalized in leadership positions at the federal level
.
“This is an opportunity to correct the imbalance.
” Moreso, the candidate from Oyo State, Odebunmi, has the support of majority of his collegaues.
“The federal legislator enjoys robust goodwill among his colleagues in the green chamber
” Odebunmi is a selfless politician ,who will build a good working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government for the sake of nation building”
While appealing to stakeholders of the APC to provide a level playing ground for legislators aspiring for the speakership position, the group commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his patriotism and selflessness on national issues.
