Some armed thugs have invaded the Ohafia local government collation centre in Abia, where final collating of results from the LGA in the governorship and house of assembly election is taking place, Igbere TV has learnt.
Igbere TV gathered that the thugs suspected to be loyal to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, stormed the collation centre on Saturday night and carted away ballot boxes and election results.
The INEC officials and police officers present were said to have scampered for safety.
There have been various reports of thugs disrupting the exercise in some parts of the state.
Abians have been trooping out to vote for a governor that will lead the state for another four years.
They are also expected to elect those who would be representing them at the state house of assembly.
Igbere TV reports that elections have been officially concluded with results streaming in.
Results of some polling units have been released but a winner is yet to be announced by INEC.
However, from the four local governments announced so far by the commission, the guber candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Uche Ogah is leading in three LGAs, while the incumbent governor Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party led in one LGA.
While Ogah won in Arochukwu, Bende, Umuahia North and Umunneochi LGAs, Ikpeazu won with wide margin in Obingwa. APGA’s Otti is currently leading in Aba South LGA with slim margin ahead of APC’s Ogah.
This is just as ballot box snatching, vote-buying and intimidation characterised the exercise in some parts of the state. There has been reports of such cases in the home town of the deputy governor, Ude Oko Chukwu in Nkporo.
Our source told us authoritatively that the PDP are currently using the armed thugs to rewrite the results in Ohafia LGA.
“We, therefore, call on INEC and security agencies to step in and cancel the results in the local government, as this desperation is unacceptable. The will of the people must not be subverted by some desperate politicians,” the source told Igbere TV.
