Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has raised alarm over an alleged plot by the opposition to announce fake results in today’s polls.

Igbere TV reports that this is coming less than an hour to Saturday’s Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in the state.

In a statement signed by the State Commisioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, and sent to Igbere TV, he alleged that the aim is to declare a particular candidate as the winner of the election even before collation of results.

He also alleged that the same opposition party has mobilized hoodlums from within and outside the state to cause anarchy during and after the polls.

Full Statement,

“We have received information on a plot by an opposition party to use one of the private radio stations in the state to announce fake results of the governorship election holding in the state on Saturday March 9, 2019.

“The aim of the mischief makers include to declare a particular candidate as the winner of the election even before collation of results, cause chaos in the state as well as create conditions for the writing of and announcement of fake election results.

“The same opposition party has mobilized hoodlums from within and outside the state to cause anarchy.

“We wish to warn all broadcast stations in the state to ensure that they are not used for unlawful purposes, and also by this press release, put INEC and security agencies on notice with regard to this plot.

“Security agencies should fish out the hoodlums who are currently quartered in private homes of the opposition Chieftains in the state.

“We wish to assure Abia citizens and residents that the government is working assiduously with security agencies in the state to ensure that the election is peaceful with the outcome reflecting the wish of the people. All registered voters in the state are therefore advised to come out and vote for the candidates of thier choice without fear of harassment or intimidation.”
