According to the Chairman of the Yoruba group under the auspices of “Igbimo Ajose” , Prince Adeleke Adeoye, said  for fairness and equity, President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) should support the South East in producing the Senate President for the 9th session of the national assembly.

While faulting the narratives that the North East should produce the senate president, the community leader stressed that the President is from the North and the Vice President is from the South West, adding that it is time for the South East to be duly recognized in national politics.

He called on the senators-elect to show patriotism by presenting a senator of Igbo extraction for the position of Senate president.

He said, “following the successful conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections across the country, we have keenly and painstakingly followed the narratives on the candidacy of the next senate president.

” Different ethnic groups have been strategising in a bid to clinch the seat for their candidates.

“Over the years, Nigerians of South East extraction have been deprived of leadership positions at the national level.

” The time is now to correct the anomalies of the past in the interest of national peace and unity.

” Nigeria is a blessed country because of her heterogeneous nature.

“We should see our cultural, ethnic and religious diversity as a strength and not an opportunity to cause disharmony.

” For the country to move to the next level, all ethnic groups must be accorded equal opportunities”

While appealing to the leadership of the APC to zone the position of Senate president to the South East, the community leader commended former Governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his patriotic efforts in promoting peace and unity across the country, adding that Nigeria is gradually taking its rightful place in the comity of nations.

Adeoye, who lauded the developmental strides of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government, called on political class to live up to expectations, adding that the President will take Nigeria to enviable heights.

While congratulating President Muhammadu Buhhari on his well deserved victory in the presidential poll, the chairmain urged Nigerians to be calm, steadfast and law-abiding.
