The Social Democratic Party, SDP, Abia State chapter has dismissed the report that its candidate, Hon Dame Blessing Nwagba Ph.d has stepped down from the Governorship race.
This was made known in communique issued by the party’s state working committee on Wednesday and made available to Igbere TV.
The party said the “chairmen took unilateral decision contrary to the position of our Party at the National and Abia State Chapter which culminated to Anti party activity.”
“COMMUNIQUE BY THE SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY (SDP) ABIA STATE CHAPTER ; STATE WORKING COMMITTEE (SWC) MADE TODAY 6th MARCH, 2019.”
“The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Abia State Chapter in her expanded State Working Committee held this morning 6th day of March, 2019 critically reviewed the activities of Some Local Government Chairmen of our Party in a purported press release adopting the candidate of another political party on 5th day of March, 2019 and advising the SDP Governorship candidate Hon Dame Blessing Nwagba Ph.D to discontinue her quest and aspiration to becoming Governor of Abia State come the 9th of March, 2019 Governorship and State Assembly elections.”
“We hereby state as follows:-
(1) That the National and Abia State Chapter of Social Democratic Party disassociate itself from the purported press release or briefing by some disgruntled elements of the party, adopting the candidacy of any other political party, mandating the Governorship candidate of our Party to step down and State categorically that the said briefing does not represent the position of the party.
(2) That SDP Governorship candidate Hon Dame Blessing Nwagba Ph.D is very much in the Governorship race and our Party through Nwagba shall provide credible leadership that is developmental oriented in Abia State.
(3) That the chairmen took unilateral decision contrary to the position of our Party at the National and Abia State Chapter which culminated to Anti party activity.
(4) That the chairmen in their quest and frivolous financial demands from the Governorship candidate, may have found who satisfied their quest for money bags.
(5) That after review of the 23rd February, 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections the chairmen who acted as collation agents could not secure result sheets for the Presidential nor National Assembly.
(6) That the chairmen have lost touch of the major principles of SDP constitution which among others provides social justice, good governance and protection of integrity of Nigerians, as well as to protect the constitution of our great party.
(7) The chairmen have placed personal interest above and higher than the interest of Abians by considering financial gains from other political party against the interest of our Party.
(8) That in the light of the above, the expanded SWC and in consultation with the National has suspended the chairmen henceforth as herein underlisted.
