Angry motorcyclist otherwise known as Okada riders have being repel by Police from burning down station.
The police at Ejigbo Division led by the DPO, CSP Olabisi Okwuobi, foiled the plan by motorcycle operators to burn down the police station on Saturday night in Lagos.
IGBERE TV gathered that some motorcycle riders stormed the police station armed with weapons and premium motor spirit to set the station on fire over their protest that one RSS vehicle caused an accident in which one of their members got injured.
The angry riders were said have operated at night around 11pm on that day from Jakande Estate through Bucknor area of Ejigbo, Lagos before they sighted RSS vehicle and thought that the men inside the vehicle came to arrest them and impound their motorcycles; they then started running with their bikes.
The angry riders thereafter mobilized their members, stormed the police station, damaged the RSS vehicle and other vehicles parked outside the station and tried to gain access into the station before the police repelled them.
Following the destruction of the vehicles, the police swung into action that night and arrested 19 suspects while over 50 motorcycles were impounded and kept at the station as exhibits.
When our correspondent visited to the station, the DPO was not around but sources at the station told our reporter that the police worked throughout the night to secure the station from arson by the angry riders.
IGBERE TV understands that what made the riders to mobilize to take such action was that they were operating around that late hour when they sighted RSS vehicle and they started running thinking that the RSS wanted to impound their motorcycles for operating beyond the stipulated time. It was in the process that one of the riders had an accident which angered them to mobilize to set the police station ablaze before they were repelled.
Police sources said the suspects arrested in connection with the destruction of vehicles and attempted arson will be charged to court for prosecution while the motorcycles impounded will be handed over to the State Government for permanent seizure.
The police have also apprehended the victim that had the accident and he had testified that RSS vehicle did not hit him but that hey were running before he had the accident and was said to be on bail for treatment.
