The Akwa Ibom State Government has ordered more aircraft in the Ibom Air fleet, Igbere TV understands.
Igbere TV reports that three planes are on ground, ready for commercial flight action at the Victor Attah International Airport.
As Akwa Ibom marches towards beconing the aviation capital of Nigeria, Igbere TV gathered exclusively that a fourth aircraft is expected in August.
Igbere TV reprorts that Gov Udom Emmanuel on Wednesday, February 20, took delivery of two aircraft for operations at the state-owned airline, Ibom Air.
The official unveiling of the aircraft was performed by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at Obong Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo.
In his remarks, Governor Emmanuel described the airline as a monumental achievement of his administration.
Emmanuel said the aircrafts were only six years old and constituted the newest and modern fleet of the CFWNL Canadian aircraft.
He said Akwa Ibom was the only state currently running a state-owned airline in the country.
The governor assured Akwa Ibom people that Ibom Air would be run as a business.
He said the airline would operate on profitable routes and would give preference to Akwa Ibom people.
His words, “The launching of Ibom Air is a monumental achievement in Akwa Ibom state and indeed Africa. The journey to achieve Ibom airline started in 2016 and today, it is a reality.
“I want to charge my people that we can achieve a lot if we come together. This is the only state across the country that runs and operates an international airport. We are the only state that runs a category two run way.
“I want to reassure the former governor, Obong Victor Attah that very soon the MRO will be a place that will maintain fleets of aircraft across the country.
“We are running Ibom Air as a business, paying particular attention to Akwa Ibom people,” he said.
Unveiling the air line, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki congratulated Akwa Ibom people for having a leader in the person of Mr Udom Emmnauel whom he said has the interest of his people at heart.
“Today we celebrate the audacity s of hope, today we celebrate a man that has a dream for his people, who does not stop until the dream is realized.
“What he has done shows he is thinking of how to make life better for his people, how to improve governance and provide good leadership,” he said.
