Former Governor of Abia state and Senator-elect for Abia North Senatorial district, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, says he has the capacity to win election in any of the three senatorial districts in the state, Igbere TV reports.
Dr Kalu stated this, Tuesday while speaking with newsmen at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
Igbere TV reports that the former governor had gone to the FMC for his routine medical checkup.
He was reacting to a statement credited to the Senator representing Abia North at the National Assembly, Mao Ohuabunwa, that the processes that truncated his re-election bid was marred with irregularities.
Dr. Kalu while speaking said the processes that led to his emergence was free, fair and credible, adding that no form of irregularity was recorded.
“God has, through the people, spoken; and I have accepted their mandate. It is going to be a big task ahead; but a job I will be committed to.”
He, therefore, called on Ohuabunwa to accept the outcome of the election, describing it as a reflection of the will of the people of Abia North.
“The (election) process was very transparent. If they should conduct the election twenty times, I will win him twenty times. He knows this and the people know too. I’m the only person in this state who can run in any of the three senatorial districts and win. This is Abia Central where the FMC is located. I can contest election here and still defeat T. A Orji. It’s not a rocket science but a reality. I’m not running on any other thing but based on my previous performances for the people, and my past experience,” he said.
Kalu, who admitted he was in the hospital on health reasons, said he’s not among those (leaders) who keep their health issues in shenanigans.
“I’m here for my medical check up. I have been doing this since I returned from Germany and it’s not a secret. I’m not one of those leaders who hide when they have medical issues. I had medical issues which was well taken care of. It therefore behoves on me to continue the (check up) processes with my Doctors,” he said.
The former governor while applauding the FMC Umuahia and the Neurologist, Dr. Iheanacho, revealed that his medical team in Germany has found Iheanacho and his team useful.
He also commended the CMD of the hospital, Dr. Chukwu Abali, whom he said has been of great assistance to him, and therefore said he will continue to consult him as the need arises.
Dr Kalu also rated the facilities at the FMC theatre high, saying it’s as good as being in Germany.
He commended the conduct of the electorates at the just concluded election especially in villages around Bende local Government Area such as Item, Igbere, Ozuitem, Umuhu, Alayi, while thanking them for their votes.
He said the people voted according to their conscience, and therefore appealed to Abians to participate in the forthcoming March 9 governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
He hinted that the results of the presidential election in Abia was manipulated by the opposition, but however insisted that the APC in the state is not bothered about the alleged rigging.
He expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari will emerge victorious in the ongoing Result Collation exercise in Abuja.
On his relationship with the senator representing Abia North, Mao Ohuabunwa, Dr. Kalu said he has nothing against him.
He however noted that he has forgiven the Senator for what he did against the state long ago, and insisted that working for the people is his primary concern at the National Assembly.
He said: “I am here to see my Doctor for my routine check up after my surgery in Germany. The experts here are one of the best in the country, and I have come to do my regular check up after the campaigns and subsequently the election.
“You know I am not one of those people who hide their medical condition from their people. Although I am hale and hearty, I have come to be properly checked.”
