BREAKING!!! Court Sacks APC Lawmaker, To Pay N30m Damages

Giwa Alex, JOS

Federal High sitting in Jos the plateau state capital, has sacked a Plateau State lawmaker Ibrahim Baba Hassan over certificate forgery.

The lawmaker has also been asked to pay 30million naira fine, which include general administration cost and the cost of  filing the case.

According to Igbere TV correspondent in JOS, the plateau state capital, the sacked lawmaker who is currently representing Jos North-North local government in the Plateau state House of Assembly was dragged to court since 2015 by Abdul Nasir Saleh who is challenging the authenticity of his Diploma Certificate in Business administration which he (Hassan) claimed  to have obtained from University of Jos.

Saleh contested party primaries with the sacked lawmaker on the platform of All Progressive Congress in 2015 where he came second.

The presiding Judge, Justice Musa Kurya in his judgement on the matter said, there is no trace of proof that the the certificate submitted to INEC is genuinely obtained from University Jos.

The Judge also in his ruling said “I wonder how a person whose  diploma certificate is proved to have been forged sitting and making law.”

He further said “I wonder the laws that he will make for the development of his constituency and by extension, the state as a whole”.

Igbere TV gathered that Justice Kurya further submitted that other additional degree  certificates obtained by the accused using the contentious diploma which has been proved to be forged are rendered void, as he said “you can’t build something out of nothing.”

In his judgement Igbere TV learnt that the court ordered the lawmaker to refund all the salaries and and entitlements during the years he held sway as the lawmaker in plateau state house of Assembly as they are illegally acquired.

However, the lawmaker has been directed by the court to pay the administrative charges of 5,000,000.00 (Five Million Naira) being the total legal fees for prosecuting the case, and also 25,000,000.00 (Twenty Five Million Naira) as General Damages.

150,000.00 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) being the cost of filing of the case.

He however, called on the Department of State Security Services (DSS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) and State House of Assembly to take note of this judgement.
