2019 : PDP Blasts APC Over Call To Cancel Akwa Ibom Elections

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has blasted the All Progressives Congress, APC, over call to cancel the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday in Akwa Ibom.

PDP in a statement made available to Igbere TV by Comrade Ini Ememobong said entire reading public has been entertained by the press statement of the APC in Akwa Ibom state demanding for the cancellation of the elections in Akwa Ibom state.

Lai Mohammed and Akpabio

The statement reads,

“The Long Awaited Post-Election Cry by the APC”

“The entire reading public has been entertained by the press statement of the APC in Akwa Ibom state demanding for the cancellation of the elections in Akwa Ibom state. This statement which is already dead on arrival posits that materials were not sent to Registration Area Centres (RAC) as the norm is. The question is, at what point did the APC become aware of this misnomer, assuming but not conceding that it occurred? What steps did they take to correct the anomaly? If the materials were not deposited at the RAC center how come their chieftains, Godswill Akpabio and Nsima Ekere were seen on national TV commending the timely delivery of materials and smooth conduct of the elections?”

“If materials were not deposited at the RAC in Essien Udim like other local government areas, where did Hon. Emmanuel Akpan and Nse Ntuen hijack materials for Essien Udim, which they kept at Semek water factory(belonging to Nsentip Akpabio)? Again, How come Anietie Okon Etim, a police orderly attached to Nsentip Akpabio who hijacked results at the collation centre, compromised it and wanted to bring it back, but was captured and beaten by voters?”

” Does the APC really want us to believe that they were aware that materials were at the homes of PDP people and they did not activate their manfriday AIG Kimo to raid, arrest and parade those in whose homes the materials were kept?”

“What the APC should do is to apologise to Akwa Ibom people for the militarization of our electoral process and the unprecedented harassment of our civil population. They should tender unreserved apologies to the family of Captain Iniobong Ekong who was abducted by the military on the petition by Senator Godswill Akpabio; to the people of Etim Ekpo who were chased away by Hon. Emmanuel Ekon using an Amoured Personnel Carrier and those harassed by DIG Ekpoudom; to the people of Abak who witnessed ballot box snatching by APC thugs and the shooting of a PDP faithful Ubong Umana by army personnel on the prompting of Hon. Uwem Udoma, without any lawful justification ; the people of unit 12 , ward 2 in Ibiono Ibom where Senator Ita Enang hijacked materials and diverted them to his house; to the people of itu local government area where Engr. Bassey Ekanem went on a hijacking tour of materials.”

“We had predicted that this post election cry will come, because rather than prepare for elections, the APC chieftains were more interested in the removal of the REC, the posting of police commissioners and importation of thugs.”

“Akwa Ibom people have replied in a resounding tone their rejection of those broom wielding ‘politipreneurs’ whose only desire is the crude exercise of brute power and the strategic conversion of public wealth to private resources. Their rejection was communicated through the ballot, at great cost to the citizenry who braved all the intimidation and harassment skillfully deployed by the APC.”

“The duty of the electoral umpire is the conduct of elections, counting and declaration of results, after which they become functus officio. The demand for the cancellation of results that have been collated, announced and winners declared not just impotent and banal but is made to the wrong institution.”

“We urge the public to discountenance the statement and treat it as a poor script even for a comic movie.”

“We await the official declaration of the results of Ikot Ekpene Federal constituency before we issue our official statement on the entire elections. But in the interim, we dedicate the victories in the 9 federal constituencies, two Senatorial Districts to God Almighty who has been our shield and our fortress. We appreciate Akwa Ibom people who stood firm in the discharge and defence of their franchise.”
