Kano, with more than five million, houses the second highest number of registered voters for the 2019 elections, making it a key battle ground for the two major contenders for Nigeria’s highest office: President Muhamamdu Buhari of the APC and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Speaking on the resurgence of thuggery in Kano metropolis, Emir Sanusi said: “There should be tolerance among politicians and other citizens. Politics is not a war; if you have your PVC you elect leaders of your choice.”

He also urged traditional rulers in the 44 Local Government Areas of the state to support security agencies, adding that violators should be handed over to the police.

Buhari had emphatically defeated Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 elections in Kano with a margin of nearly two million votes.

This year’s Presidential election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 16, 2019, alongside National Assembly polls.

While the governorship election and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2019.
