The Lagos city marathon organised by Access bank has ended with East Africans dominating the event, Igberetvnews reports.
Suntayahu Legese and Dinke Meseret from Ethiopia have emerged as winners of the male and female categories respectively, Igberetvnews learnt.
Legese finished ahead of favourite Joshua Kipkorir from Kenya to claim the grand prize of $50,000.
Legese triumphed in a time of 02 : 17 :28 hrs ahead of Kenyans Joshua Kipkorir ( 02 :18 : 16 hrs) and William Yegon ( 02 :19 : 04 hrs) , who placed second and third, winning cash prizes of $40,000 and $30,000 respectively at the IAAF- sanctioned event.
Nigerian Sunday Manasa, who ended the race in sixth place in 02 : 21 :11 hrs , was the country’ s best male performer and will go home with N3 million.
In the female event , Ethiopians Alemnesh Herepa ( 02 :49 : 05 hrs) and Kebena Chala (02 : 49 :09 hrs ) were second and third respectively behind Meseret, to ensure a clean sweep for the East Africans.
Meseret was champion in 02 : 48 :02 hrs .
Sixth – place Deborah Pam ( 02 :52 : 59 hrs) was Nigeria’ s best performer in the female event .
