2019: Orji Kalu Shreds Obasanjo Before Buhari in Aba, Opens 'Can of Worms'

Former Governor of Abia State and Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia North Senatorial district, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has lashed out at former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent remarks on the President Muhammadu Buhari administration ahead of next month’s general elections, Igbere TV can authoritatively report.

Igbere TV gathered that Dr. Kalu was reacting to Obasanjo’s press conference where the ex-President attacked the Buhari government and labelled it another Sani Abacha era.

He spoke on Tuesday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign at the Enyinba township stadium, Aba, Abia State.

The former governor argued that Obasanjo has no moral justifications to openly criticize the Buhari-led administration.

He posited that Obasanjo, as a sitting President, brought corruption in Nigeria.

Dr. Kalu, while speaking further, noted that Obasanjo was not happy with the feat attained by the APC government in the clean-up of the mess of the past 16 years of PDP administration.

According to him, no amount of such criticisms will stop the electorate from giving President Buhari another four-year mandate.

“Who is an Elder statesman? An Elder statesman that cannot conduct himself in public with dignity. Obasanjo lacks every moral standing to contribute to the debate about Nigeria because in truth, his actions and inactions while he held sway as a military head of state and also as an elected president contributed a great deal to the disintegration of Nigeria that he claimed in his tirade.

“Obasanjo also castigated the government’s fight against corruption as if while he was president, Nigeria did not experience one of the worst lootings of the treasury. Obasanjo started corruption, he is the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria.

“I think the time has come for Nigerians to disregard the entity called Olusegun Obasanjo, the self-righteous man who wanted a third term in office. He tried to manipulate the electoral act but failed even after trying to bribe members of the National Assembly with at least N50m each.

“The way Obasanjo talks gives the impression that he is a lifetime opposition leader who has never held any office. What did he and his political party (PDP) do about the 16 years they held sway in Aso Rock?

“My concern for Obasanjo is the fact he has a penchant for peddling falsehoods to fulfil his desires which are not necessarily in the interest of the general public. But he would whip up emotions and sentiments that make him appear as that Elder statesman that he is not, and would never be.

“The Obasanjo that I know would stop at nothing to pull down anyone who seems to have better knowledge or performed better than him. He always wants to remain in the limelight and to be seen as that one who has done better for Nigeria and Nigerians.

“President Buhari is upright, firm, steady and focused, with great vision for the betterment and progress of the country,” he said.

Dr. Kalu added that President Buhari was committed to upholding the rule of law and entrenchment of democratic principles, and therefore urged the electorate to give him their mandate for the second time.
