Violence marred a rally organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa state on Thursday, January 17, after a mob attacked police officers over the alleged death of a party member.

Report has it that thousands of PDP supporters, including a former Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, were at the rally held in Gwaram local government area of the state.

But violence at the rally reportedly erupted after a police officer who was trying to control the crowd shot one of the participant dead.

Angered by the death of the individual, a mob began to riot and attacked police officers at the rally, burning down a police vehicle.
