Biafra: Court fixes date for ruling on IPOB motion challenging proscription

An Abuja Federal High Court has fixed a date to rule on application by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, challenging the proscription order by the court.

Justice Abdu Kafarati, Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, had on September 20, 2017, issued the proscription order, following a motion by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN.

Kafarati also declared the pro-Biafra group as a terrorist organisation.

However, IPOB, through its counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor in a motion before the same judge on September 22, argued that the proscription order was unconstitutional.

During today’s resumed hearing, Justice Kafarati fixed January 17 for judgement.

Earlier, he heard the arguments of Ejiofor and the Federal Government’s legal team led by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata.
