JUST IN: Amina Zakari Opens Up On Allegations Of Being Related To Buhari(Video)

Embattled newly appointed head of election collation centre for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2019 elections, Amina Bala- Zakari has finally opened up on allegations that she is related to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC News Igbo, Zakari pointedly denied any relationship with President Buhari.

Amina Zakari

“I am not his niece, I am not his cousin. I was appointed on this same particular job by Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in 2010. Prior to that I was appointed an A.S to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, and I did my job perfectly, ” she said in the video of the interview posted to BBC News Igbo’s Facebook page.

Zakari’s words comes just a day after
it was reported that the Presidency revealed that she and President Buhari do not share a family relationship as being speculated by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said in a statement in Abuja on Friday that the imputation of blood relationship between the President and the electoral commissioner was `a simple lie’.

Zakari’s video may also put an end to threat by several opposition parties under the umbrella of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and other stakeholders to pull out of the Peace Accord initiated by the Gen Abdusalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee.

The parties and stakeholders said they wanted appointment of Amina Bala-Zakari as head of collation centres for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the oncoming general elections reversed.
