Police Respond To Claims Of Forcefully Entering Dino Melaye's house, Reveal What They Plan To Do

Senator Dino Melaye has raised the alarm over an alleged police attempt to break into his Abuja house to forcefully arrest him.

The senator representing Kogi West made the accusation on Wednesday, January 2 in a tweet on his Twitter handle.

He alleged that the police were bringing in tools which would be used to forcefully gain entrance into his home and arrest him after days of laying siege to his property in Maitama area of Abuja, the nation’s capital city.

He tweeted:
Police bringing in tool boxes to break doors and vandalize my house. Police EOD truck just brought them. Media take note.

But the police has denied the allegations that they were planning to break into Melaye’s home.

Report has it that the Police even took journalists around the house as proof that it was not planning to break into the compound.

Senator Melaye on his Twitter handle had announced how the police invaded his Abuja residence some days back.

Just days before that, Melaye had raised the alarm against the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris , claiming there was a plot to arrest him on Christmas day and kill him.

In a tweet on Tuesday, December 25, the Kogi lawmaker claimed the plan was to inject him to death.

On its part, the police had explained that the personnel currently at Senator Melaye’s residence were there to effect his arrest over a case of culpable homicide .

The police noted that Melaye and some suspects were accused of shooting a police officer, Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, attached to 37 Police Mobile Force (PMF) while on duty in Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi.

A statement by the force spokesman, acting DCP Jimoh Moshood in Abuja, said the police would continue to occupy his residence until he surrendered.

The police had earlier brushed aside claims that the federal lawmaker had been penciled down for arrest and alleged execution via injection as he had claimed.
Police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said:

The Force is categorically stating that the statement is mischievous, malicious, capable of misleading the public and laughable” adding that “there was no such order from the Inspector General of Police or any plan by the Force to arrest Senator Dino Melaye and inject him to death.
