As the 2019 general elections draw nearer, the senatorial bid of former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has received a major boast as former political appointees during Kalu’s tenure as governor have adopted him as their sole candidate for the race.
According to the duo of Hon. Chibuike Jonas and Dr. Frank Osita, former chairmen of Arochukwu and Ummuneochi LGAs, respectively, the APC candidate has the political dexterity and network of contacts to drive the development of Abia North zone.
While cautioning politicians against campaigns of calumny, the former chairmen stressed that Kalu’s achievements in the public and private spheres of life remain indelible and unbeatable.
Speaking with a cross-section of journalists in Ohafia on Thursday, after an interactive session with their former colleagues, Jonas and Osita called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the civil society, security agencies, the media and other stakeholders to be vigilant in Abia State before, during and after the forthcoming polls.
They said, “having appraised all the candidates for the race in Abia North Senatorial Zone, we have come to a conclusion that in view of the quality representation we are craving, only Dr. Orji Kalu, has what it takes to represent us.
“Our decision is borne out of the need to take Abia North to the next level.
” We cannot no longer condone weak representation.
“There are loads of challenges facing our people and, as such, we will not fold our arms again to have a mediocrity represent us again in the red chamber.
” The position of a senator is for someone who has the capacity to do what is expected of him by his constituents.
“Kalu has performed well in different capacities especially during his stint as governor.
“With all sense of patriotism and without apologies, we are convinced Kalu will take Abia North to enviable heights”
The former chairmen urged the electorate not to sell their votes to selfish politicians, adding that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has implemented social investment programmes across the country.
