9 Things People Do Not Know About ex - Chief of Defence Staff Who Was Murdered

Below are some of the things you may need to know about Alex Badeh, Ex-chief of Defense Staff.

1: Alex Sabundu Badeh was born on the 7th of November, in 1957, in a small town called Vimtim, Adamawa State. Adamawa state is also the state of origin for Former Vice President and Current PDP Presidential Candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubarka.

2: Badeh parents were peasant farmers, he had to work his way up by joining Air Force through NDA – National Defense Academy.

3: He was commissioned as a pilot officer on 3rd of July in 1979, 4 months to his 22nd birthday.

4: He was the commander of the presidential fleet during the Obasanjo presidency of 1999-2007.

5: After passing checks at the United States Secrets Service, Badeh was granted the pass to fly former American Presidents, Jimmy Carter and Bill Cinton on many occasions. He also flew Koffi Annan flew Koffi Annan, who was the former UN president who autographed him on an occasion. By 2015, he had already booked 6000hours of flight as pilot.

6: Badeh initiated various technological breakthroughs, and one of such is the initiation of OLE 1 & 2, in which GULMA 1 UAV was manufactured as the first locally produced drone in Nigeria. He also initiated the Military Radio to enable dissemination of first-hand news from the military base at Abuja.

7: As head of Defence staff, Badeh ensured that all personnel kids who are in the Air force Primary and secondary schools were getting free tuitions.

8: In October 2014, Boko Haram fighters came and attack Badeh’s hometown, burning down the hospital he built for his community and most sadly, killing his cousin, who was living next door to him.

9: Badeh retired in July 2015.
