BREAKING!!! Edo Assembly Passes 2019 Budget (See Figure)

The Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday (today) passed the state’s 2019 appropriation bill, Igbere TV News reports.


Governor Godwin Obaseki had on Monday, 26th November, 2018 presented the 2019 appropriation bill of N175.7 billion to the State’s Assembly for consideration and passage.


The budget consists of N95.8 billion for capital expenditure, while N79.9 billion went to recurrent expenditure.


The Assembly increased the appropriation bill with about N7.9 billion representing 4.3 per cent increase.
The Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation and Project Monitoring, Hon Damian Lawani said “the budget reflected the core needs of Edo people.”


Speaking further, Hon. Lawani added that the committee rigorously reviewed the estimated budget by engaging various ministries, parastatals and agencies to ensure that the interest of the people is prioritized.


During the ‘clause-by-clause’ consideration of the bill in the Committee of Supply, N102.9bn was allocated for capital expenditure, while N80.8bn was allocated for recurrent expenditure.


The Assembly, after the consideration of the document with amendments, passed the bill.


The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto directed that clean copies of the bill be sent to the governor for his assent.


Meanwhile, the speaker couldn’t hide his gratitude for the honourable members for ‘timeously’ giving the bill a rapt attention by setting aside other duties for the interest of Edo people.


The speaker who reeled out numerous laudable achievements of the Sixth Assembly in its Fourth Session cum Second Quarter, reiterated that the overall interest of Edo people would always be at the front burner.


The House thereafter adjourned to 21st January, 2019 for a working recess.
