Lock Down At Anfield!

By Emmanuel Ebimoh

By the time these two Premier League giants lock horns at Anfield today, it will be their 55th League clash since 1990/1991 season, where Liverpool have won 15 times, Manchester United have won 26 times, and 14 draws between them. No doubt, the fierce rivalry between these two English giants will spark up again today at Anfield, so we’re definitely in for an epic showdown.

Liverpool FC have started their 2018/2019 EPL campaign in flying colours and they are presently the only unbeaten team in the league so far. They are second on the table with 42 points, behind Manchester City who have 44 points but a win for Liverpool today will however take them top of the table. Their talisman Mohammed Salah, who has just been shortlisted among other African players to compete for the prestigious CAF Player of the year award, already has 10 goals to his cap this season. On his day, the dangerous striker is capable of causing havoc to any defence.

Manchester United on the other hand have so far had a shaky season with Coach Jose Mourinho in charge. They lie on 6th position on the table with 26 points, and have already lost four times from 16 games played. Despite recurring dressing room clashes between midfielder Paul Pogba and Coach Jose Mourinho, the team will hope to bring on a stellar performance to stop the rampaging Liverpool team. As the season enters its second phase, Manchester United however would need to take all 3 points off the Reds of Liverpool to increase their chances of finishing in a European League spot next season.

It’s going to be a delicious delicacy served to us at Anfield today as the fiercest rivalry in English football launch attack. Indeed, the eyes of the world will descend on Anfield. Who will take the day?
