The All Progressives Congress in Benue State on Saturday, announced a former Minister of State for Niger Delta, Chief Sam Ode, as the running mate to the governorship candidate of the party, Mr Emmanuel Jime.
Ode’s name was finally announced after so much political intrigues and consultations within the party in the state.
The choice of who would become the party’s running mate had, in the past few weeks, caused a serious problem and anxiety among party leaders in the Benue South senatorial district where the position was zoned to.
IGBERE TV News gathered that five names were nominated for the position before the list was pruned down to two candidates — Sam Ode and the Director-General, Peace Corps, Dickson Akor.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, James Ornguga, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen, said the former minister became the choice of the party because he was widely accepted by the people.
He also revealed that the party had sent Ode’s name, including all necessary and relevant documents, to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He added that the party had beaten the December 2 deadline set by INEC, for the submission of names of the candidates of political parties.
