The Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation in collaboration with the Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative, on Thursday visited Bakassi IDP, one of the biggest internally displaced persons’ camps in Borno state on a free medical outreach.
The Executive Secretary of the foundation, Rev. Jemaimah Kalu, revealed to Igbere TV correspondent that the medical outreach is for the treatment of 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons suffering from Vesico Vaginal Fistula.
She said “Our Foundation in collaboration with Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative (PCNI) went to the largest IDP camp, Bakassi camp in Maiduguri on a medical outreach. We treated over one thousand patients having diabetic ulcer and chronic vagina infection. We went there on the 7th of November and we just finished today being 9th.
“We collaborated with them (PCNI). We worked with two doctors, two nurses and ten volunteers and the people were so glad to receive us” she said.
The retired permanent secretary explained that this was a way of the Foundation to identify with the IDP whom she said are in need.
She expressed the commitment of the founder of the Foundation, the former governor of Abia state, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu in securing a brighter tomorrow for the less privileged in the society.
She thanked the federal government for keying into the interest free loan scheme of the Foundation which according to her has covered the entire Abia North senatorial district, Aba South and South local government areas.
In his remark, Ibrahim Machina, PCNI representative in Borno, commended the foundation for coming to the aid of the IDPs. He appealed to other local and international foundations to emulate Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation.
