October 5th, 2018.
Honourable Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives covering Ado Ekiti and Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Areas has expressed a renewed hope once again to succeed Senator Raji Rasaki, the current Senator representing the Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly in Abuja.
As it will be recalled, Honourable Michael Opeyemi Bamidele is currently an Aspirant contesting for the Ekiti Central Senatorial District covering five local government areas of Efon, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti West, Ijero and Irepodun/Irepodun local government areas of Ekiti State. His major opponent, Senator Raji Rasaki is the current Senator representing the Ekiti Central Senatorial District in Abuja.
Senator Raji Rasaki was formerly in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) where she contested and was given the mandate to represent the Ekiti Central Senatorial District in Abuja as a Senator since the year 2015. Her political travails began when she lost touch with the outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose in 2015 shortly after she was elected as a Senator under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Findings in the PDP family in Ekiti State revealed that she became politically disconnected with Fayose when she stopped paying political homage to Governor Fayose. She was ostracized out of the People’s Democratic Party which eventually led her to decamped to her new Party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ekiti State.
Senator Raji Rasaki who came into the All Progressive Congress not too long ago, without any recourse to those she met in the Party is already aspiring to recontest for the Ekiti Central Senatorial District in the 2019 general elections.
The observations and investigations of the Igbere Tv Reporter in Ekiti State, Emmanuel Adeniran across the 58 wards in the Ekiti Central Senatorial District indicated that the impart of Senator Raji Rasaki have not been felt by the people of her Constituency owing to her neglect of them immediately after she was elected as their Senator in 2015. The people who are really embittered as a result of her neglect and abandonment complained that she chooses to stay in Abuja until now, that she is coming back to say she wants to re-contest after abandoning at the time of their needs.
At the Iyin Ekiti Ward A, Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele polled a total votes of 1,985 while Senator Raji Rasaki scored 0 for the Ekiti Central Senatorial District. Honourable Sesan Fatoba, an Aspirant for the Federal House of Representatives scored votes of 1,981 with no opponent. For the House of Assembly, Honourable Femi Akindele scored a total votes of 1,981 with no other Aspirant. The Returning Officer for the Ward A Iyin Ekiti, Mr. Owoeye Ayodeji announced 2,992 total registered voters while the total accredited voters was 1,985.
Equally, at Ward A Iyin Ekiti, the Returning Officer, Mr. Oladogbe Julius put the total registered voters at 1,608 and the total accredited voters also at 1,608. For the Senate, Honourable Michael Opeyemi Bamidele scored 1,546 while the incumbent Senator Raji Rasaki scored 0. For the House of Representatives, Honourable Sesan Fatoba scored 1,540 while the House of Assembly, Honourable Femi Akindele scored 1,502.
Honourable Michael Opeyemi Bamidele advised Senator Raji Rasaki to tread softly and allow the wish and interest of the common party members to prevail. He also urged her to stop parading herself as the anointed Candidate of Mr. President in Abuja.
