PDP National Chairmanship: Why South West deserves position – Ex-Senate President, Adolphus Wabara

Former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has insisted that emergence of a South West person as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would be the best thing to happen to the party since its formation in 1998.

Wabara made this declaration in Ibadan on Sunday while addressing journalists shortly after he received reports of the Saturday’s ward congresses of the party held across the state.

The Ex-Senate President who is also the Chairman for Oyo State Wards Congresses Electoral Committee while giving satisfactory remarks to the results so far received, noted that the emergence of one of the aspirants from the South West geopolitical zone would be the best thing to happened to the party.

He said, “The ward congresses were very successful, peaceful and of course, you know in any election, you expect some people to fell short changed but we are handling it, you know, we are here to grab this state, so we need to harmonise and I don’t want to go into analysis of what happened.

“That is party engineering, you see don’t forget I have been in elective positions, I don’t know how old you are, since I was born, we are managing the situation , things are really going on well.

“Like I said earlier, you cannot rule out protests after every election, even in America up till today, Donald Trump is still being challenged, yet he is still ruling, this is just ward congresses, don’t forget this is not PDP state, so you will now appreciate the vision of every PDP members who will want to show reason why we must grab the state. So we have solve most of these problems, there were consensus and harmonisation.

“I don’t have any doubt about that as I have said if we get it right. If you don’t do it right you can’t get it right. I think the rebranded PDP nationwide is ready to grab and with support of the electorate we are ready too and we hoped to grab power in 2019.

On the quest by South West to produce the next National Chairman of the party, Wabara said “I think that is the best thing to happened to the party, that is the best thing to happened to PDP, I have a lot of friends from the South South that are interested in that position, but I think in the interest of the party, it is time to key in.

“Yes because the South East, as an Ibo man, we also want to produce the President after the North, so we will support the South West, we will support the South West to support us when the time comes and that is why South East is not in the race for the National Chairman of the party. So we are now humble, we are humble so we are praying that one day we will come and produce the President”.

“I am not the Secretary, I don’t know the number of petitions but will call those who are involved and then we will solve it.

“There are no petitions that we have not treated and if you want to know because I am very transparent person those petitions came from, you know there are many parties here you have the Accord, PDP, we have the SDP, Labour and the original core PDP. So in Accord party itself, you have another Rescue Accord party, they are happy because we are now one family. We lost elections because we took away our votes from different angles

“The electorate will help us grab power, we have to rebrand ourselves, you see one good thing is that those faces in PDP, the electorate will look at those faces, this same man is still there, but they want to see that, that same face is the same face but changed in character. You see that is the only one way we can win. If we will not learn our lessons, there is no way we can win.

“In the same state, we need to tell Nigerians that we are repented.”
