Finally, Abia APC Accept Direct Primaries. See Why

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State has aligned themselves with the national executive of the party by adopting direct primaries for all categories of elections in 2019

APC Chairman in the state, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa announced this while briefing newsmen Wednesday after a meeting between the members of the state executive and all the aspirants.

He said the adoption was the consensus of all participants at the meeting.

Nwakpa explained that direct primaries would enable the party elect the most popular among the contenders of various positions instead of indirect primaries where a handful of delegates decide the fate of the people.

According to him, the party is only interested in presenting salable candidates who will help it secure the state in 2019.

He said anybody afraid of direct primaries is not marketable and only hopes to manipulate the system for a predetermined outcome.

Nwakpa said the era of imposition had ended, insisting that only popular candidates chosen by the people that will fly the party’s flag.

Asked if direct primaries would not alter the power zoning arrangement in the state Nwankpa said APC does not believe in zoning.

He said APC was not a signatory to any power zoning agreement and would not respect such a deal which does not encourage merit and competence.

Some of the aspirants sighted at the meeting by Wawa News Global include a frontline governorship contestant, Dr. Uche Ogah; Chief Friday Nwosu ; and Senator Nkechi Nwogu.
