Why I Went for Medical Examination at FMC Umuahia - Orji Kalu

Former governor of Abia State and a chieftain of APC, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has revealed the reason he visited the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia despite being told to travel to Germany for that.

Kalu said he went for medical checkup after feeling dizzy because of the number of visitors he received and  also described the Nigerian doctors as the best.

The former governor also called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Health to provide the doctors with the necessary equipments in order for them to discharge their duties.

Dr. Kalu after undergoing the medical checkup at FMC Umuahia, against a planned medical trip to Germany also reckoned that the hospital has enough professionals with experience in different areas of specialization to handle medical cases and called on the federal government to consider upgrading the centre to a teaching hospital.

According to him,

“Because of the number of visitors I had in the camp yesterday, well over 3000 of them, I woke up this morning feeling dizzy, instead of going to a private hospital, I decided to come to a federal government hospital where I know that Dr. Chuku Abali and his team have done a very good job.”

“I’m in good health. I’ve finished my investigations and I’m very happy that I’m in the hospital because this is what I’m telling our politicians and other big Nigerians to have a second address, because if I’m going to US or London, I might die on the way so I’m fine.”

“I’m not sure that there is anything doctors overseas do that these doctors here cannot do.”

“The federal government is working, but will have to do more. I’m calling on the minister of health and President Muhammadu Buhari and all the members of the federal executive council to convert this hospital to a teaching hospital so that our students of medicine can be trained here. This is one of the best we have. I’ve gone round the wards after my treatment, they are very clean, I’ve sent the CCT scan, MRI, they have it all here. There’s nothing found overseas that are not here.”

“In Nigeria, we have the best medical personnel, what we don’t have are the equipment, so I think the earlier we make investments, the better for us. This is even better than the Turkish hospital I used to go to in Abuja. So I can say this authoritatively that the number of personnel here, if given the opportunity by federal government, they will perform wonders,” he explained.

The consultant that led the medical check, Dr. Acho George confirmed that Dr Kalu is in good and healthy condition.

“His Excellency is in good health. He only came for routine check, which we did. There is nothing to worry about”, Dr. Acho said.
