President Muhammadu Buhari at the opening ceremony of the 56th Annual General Conference and delegates meeting of Nigeria Medical

Association (NMA) in Sokoto that medical trips abroad for government officials was now banned especially if it’s for procedures or checkups that could be done in Nigeria. The President who was represented by the Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, said that he’d rather not see hard earned Nigerian cash splashed elsewhere.

“While this administration will not deny anyone of his or her fundamental human rights, we will certainly not encourage expending Nigerian hard-earned resources on any government official seeking medical care abroad, when such can be handled in Nigeria.” This would mean that while government officials could travel for medical checkups on their own dime, the government will no longer make any allocations to such.”
