An aspirant for the position of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Cross-River state, Chief Clement Ebiri has promised to uphold internal democracy in the party if elected Chairman.
He stressed that for any political party to accommodate all interests, there must be openness and accountability in its activities.
According to him, the APC is the only political party with the masses’ interest at heart.
He made these assertions in Abuja on Sunday, after a breakfast meeting with a cross-section of journalists.
He said, “the role of political parties in a democratic set up cannot be undermined.
“Political parties play significant roles in advocating democracy.
“Regardless of party affiliation, we must elect credible persons to steer the affairs of political parties across board.
” My decision to contest for the position of National Chairman of our great party, APC is borne out of the need to accommodate all interests within the party.
” We need to reposition the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“All aspirants for various positions must be given a level playing ground.
“It is only through a credible process that the right persons will be duly elected.
“I am a perfect fit for the position National Chairman because I have the political dexterity to steer the ship of the party.
” I seek the support of all stakeholders in my bid to become the next chairman”.
The former governor while charging the political class to live up to expectations, promised to sustain democratic norms if given the opportunity to steer the affairs of the APC.
