How Senate Resumed Plenary With New Mace After Thugs Attack

The Senate has resumed plenary barely an hour after armed thugs stormed the National Assembly and carted away the mace. The new mace in the chamber is smaller in size and more coloured than that of the bigger one which was catred away.

The plenary which was disrupted at about 11.30am resumed by 12.10pm. Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has assured lawmakers that the NASS will deal wit the situation fully, warning the attackers not to take democracy for granted.

Meanwhile, The Senate has described the attack on the National Assembly and the carting away of the mace by thugs ash act of treason cannot be tolerated. Senate Spokesman, Sabi Abdullahi stated this in a statement. “Today, some hoodlums led by suspended Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, walked into the Senate plenary and seized the symbol of authority of the Upper Legislative Chamber, the mace.

“This action is an act of treason, as it is an attempt to overthrow a branch of the Federal Government of Nigeria by force, and it must be treated as such. All Security agencies must stand on the side of due process and immediately mobilize their personnel to retrieve the mace and apprehend the mastermind and the perpetrators of this act.

“This action is also an affront on the legislature, and the Leadership of the House has come to express their support against this action. “The Senate is now in an Executive session. “An updated statement will be released immediately after the closed door session.
