No fewer than six persons on Wednesday, sustained various degrees of injuries in a clash between hoodlums and some foreign currency traders.
The clash occurred at the Ekiosa Market, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was gathered that the clash started after the hoodlums made attempt to extort money from the traders, which the traders vehemently resisted.
The resistance led to a fight between the suspected hoodlums and the traders, leaving about six persons severely injured.
One of the traders, Muhammad Basiru, narrating the incident to newsmen said one of the hoodlums, named Osaze, has been coming to beg them for money, “but today, he invited some of his friends to come along with him to steal hard currencies in the market.”
Alhaji Gbadamasi Saliu, Chairman, Hausa Community, Edo State, speaking on the incident said he was in his office when he received a call that hoodlums had attacked some of his people that trade in hard currencies at the Ekiosa Market.
Saliu said the situation had been brought under control by the security agencies deployed to the market.
He thanked the security agencies for their prompt intervention.
Public Relations Officer, Edo command DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, confirming the incident said the Command was on top of the situation.
