Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has expressed his worry that a repeat of the civil war that started in 1967 might be on the cards.
This follows the face-off between the Nigerian Army and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) this week.
He warned that current tensions in Nigeria must not be allowed to escalate into another conflict.
Obasanjo, who was a senior Nigerian Commander during the civil war, called for dialogue from all parties involved.
“Those who fought in the war in Biafra will not want to fight any other war,” he told NewsWeek
“I have fought one war too many in Nigeria; I don’t want to see another.”
The Biafran war erupted in 1967, after Odumegwu Ojukwu, a Nigerian military officer, declared independence.
