UMAHI SQAUNDERING EBONYI FUTURE!
Again, Gov. UMAHI wants to further plunge our dear Ebonyi State that is already bleeding to death due to huge debt burden incurred just within the last 27 months into further debts.
Just recently and against the wishes and desires of the Ebonyi majority, representatives of the African Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank whom he had approached for a $150m loan were on “assessment tour” preparatory to the release of the loan which he pretends is meant for Ebonyi ring roads.
In his usual posturing and typical of his usual look of ‘lubricant demeanour’, the Governor has boasted that he would by weekend mobilize 5000 persons to sign for the loan at Abuja as required by the loan-givers.
One may recall that Elechi had sought the same fund but people like Umahi discouraged the move as they had insisted that it will plunge the poor State into debt. Elechi was stopped by ragamufins like Nwazunku and his cohorts from accessing a N4bn bond that could have completed finishing touches on Ocho Udo city, Int’l market amongst others.
Today, nobody knows exactly how much Ebonyi is owing as Umahi uses his puppets in the HoA to get loans from even commercial banks at odd times. Experts have argued that he can’t go for bonds as they are often tied to projects and strictly monitored.
The Governor prefers the one he accesses sharp sharp and without any iota of accountability. Under the previous govt, those of us who opposed certain actions always had the privilege of asking for explanations and Elechi did provide some reasonable answers.
But under a supposed ‘Deacon’ Umahi, there are no town hall meetings. You only know the happenings around govt when you are perhaps appointed a TA by the Governor. Governance since before May 29th 2015 has become a secret affairs known only to those taking crumbs from the Umahis tables.
The elders are watching the Governor fritter public funds on chartered flights that costs an outrageous N28m (To and Fro) a distance like Abuja from Enugu and they keep clapping that Ebonyi is on the rise!
The youths will be used to sign that huge sum that would later be used as a campaign slush fund for 2019. The rest of them would look for how to either physically attack people like us or argue against the truth said here in order to scurry favour or appointments from the govt.
Governor Umahi has in his usual braggadocio dismissed those whom he feels are trying to stop him as the majority of Ebonyians feel over the rising debt profile as ‘rifraffs’ (including an Honourable Minister from the State). He feels that the battle for his re-election is all about how much money he has. But like Herb Cohen asked:
“money talks…
But does it tell the truth?”
The concern of the average Ebonyian whose future is being plundered has been what becomes of Ebonyi in a post Umahi era???
