The Senator representing Bayelsa-East Constituency in the National Assembly, Ben Murray Bruce has condemned the police brutality on Silverbird TV’s staff, Amadin Uyi, who was covering the anti-Buhari protest in Abuja.
According to Murray-Bruce, the police attack on Uyi, who was only carrying out his lawful duties, was akin to an attack on his family.
He called on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to investigate the attack.
The Senator, who owns Silverbird TV, said on Tuesday night: “I condemn the police brutality on Silverbird TV’s Amadin Uyi. I don’t have staff. I have family and an attack on them is an attack on me.
“Amadin Uyi was doing his duties as provided by the law. Why should my family member be thus treated! This is an attack on press freedom.
“I call on the Inspector General of Police to launch an investigation into the attack on Amadin Uyi.
“We will be waiting and watching!”
It could be recalled that FCT Police command had explained that it dispersed anti-Buhari protesters and journalists covering the protest in Abuja on the grounds that there were reports of a plan to breakdown law and order as well as disturb public peace in the nation’s capital.
