The decomposed corpse of an unidentified teenage girl discovered at Henshaw Town Primary School, Egerton in Calabar, in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State is still there almost a week after it was found. It was alleged to have been deposited there on Friday.
Residents who covered their noses before passing through the area said that they are now exposed to infection. Bassey Okon alleged that the corpse was dumped there by unknown persons as there was no blood stain in her cloth.
He alleged that the victim may have been raped and in the process died and the rapists brought the corpse and dumped there in the night. Sadly, he continued, “Nobody has come out to identify her.”
“She may have been brought in from far distance and after raping, the rapists quietly brought her here. That is my thinking; I am not saying that was what happened. I said this because she was not from our area” he alleged.
Alternatively, another resident in the area who declined given his name said that the victim may have been drugged by unknown persons and appealed to young girls to remain in their parents’ homes and obey the counselling of their mothers and fathers.
Another version of the matter was that the victim may have been a lunatic but the resident said the deceased had not been seen in the area and it would be strange to tag her a lunatic.
But a mother in the area who declined giving her name remarked, “Our children of these days don’t listen, they want money and fashion, and these are the things that exposed them to all kinds of danger.
“It is regrettable that she ended her life in this way,” Se said, calling on the Cross River State government to put welfare and create job opportunities for the youths who in large number in the society.
At the time of filling this report, the corpse that has decomposed remains in the school.
