A member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Theophilous Ugboaja on Wednesday denied report that members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state assembly had concluded plan to defect to the All Progressives Congress,(APC).
This came following news report that APGA lawmakers in Abia House of Assembly have planned to decamp to APC over the current internal wrangling in the national leadership of the party.
Ugboaja who made the denial in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday described the report as false.
He said if APGA lawmakers nursed such plan to join APC, it would be done openly on the floor of house.
He wondered how some people would go out there and spread fake rumour.
According to him, members of APGA in the assembly remained committed to the ideologies of the party, pointing out that when the need for defection arises, their constituents would know.
His words: “That is complete fallacy. No such plan by APGA members including me in Abia House of Assembly to join APC.
“Just the other day, someone accused me that I attended a function in my constituency where APC chieftain also attended and they had concluded that I have defected to APC”.
“If there is such need, I and other APGA members will declare on the floor of the house. I don’t why people should pre-empt us.
“We are still strong members of APGA. We are loyal to our party leaders. If tomorrow, they say let’s move, we will move. Politics is a movement of interest.
“But for now, no such plan to decamp APC.”
