The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old man, Oku Ekanem, who allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old daughter of his lover.
Ekanem was allegedly caught by his lover, Blessing Joshua, while defiling the girl in the middle of the night.
The mother raised alarm and men of the state’s security outfit, codenamed Operation Doo Akpo, later visited the scene.
They arrested the suspect and later handed him over to the police.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday, spokesman of the command, DSP Asinim Butswat, said the case has been lodged with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and that investigation was ongoing.
“The case has been incidented with the Criminal Investigations Department and the suspect is in custody.
“But we are still awaiting the medical report from the hospital which will provide details to work with,” Asinim said.
