Former Senate President, David Mark says there is no need for the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to campaign for another term, since his works were enough to convince the people to give him another mandate.
Mark made the declaration, yesterday, while unveiling the reconstructed Brick House in Government House, Port Harcourt.
He said, “you can compare and contrast when people are committed. So, when the next elections come, you don’t need to do propaganda, these works will campaign for you.”
Mark described Wike as a gift to Rivers State, adding that history will judge him kindly for his good works.
On the reconstructed Brick House, the senator representing Benue South in the Senate, recalled that as a Major in the Army and chairman of the Abandoned Property Commission in the early 70s, he could remember the state of the building, and praised Wike for preserving history.
Responding, the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said he was poised to return the building, which used to house state governors, to its former status.
Wike regretted the neglect the building suffered since the last administration took over power.
“It is important that we preserve what we had built in 1928. All the governors, including Dr. Peter Odili, stayed in the Brick House,” he stated.
The governor said after Odili left office, the building was abandoned, hence, the need to return it to its former glory.
He explained that though the main structure and some of its old features were left intact, some new amendments were made to give it a new look.
Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has endorsed the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for a second term, saying that the state needs his development prowess to be completely repositioned.
He described Governor Wike as the best performing governor in the country.
Commissioning the completed Kpopie-Bodo Road in Gokana Local Government Area, last Monday, Akpabio expressed gratitude to God for allowing him to witness another governor in the Niger Delta who believes in profound development.
He commended Wike for diligently constructing the Kpopie-Bodo Road, which has given the people of the area a sense of belonging.
He said: “From the pictures I have seen here, I wonder how you people lived before Nyesom Wike became governor.
Oh my people, you must have suffered. This road will help revive the economy of the area”.
He said that by creating access to communities of Gokana, Wike has empowered them and given them the leverage to grow.
In his remarks, Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said that his administration has fulfilled the promise it made to Gokana people, without giving excuses.
He regretted that the former works commissioner under the Chibuike Amaechi administration, Mr Victor Giadom, who hails from Gokana Local Government Area, allowed a project under his supervision to be abandoned.
He noted that the Senate minority leader was invited to commission the project because he was one of the pillars of support during the electioneering period.
He stated that he will continue to deliver democracy dividends to the people of the state.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Works, Iheanyichuwu Bathuel, said that the Kpopie-Bodo Road, which is about 10kilometres, has been fitted with street lights.
Secretary to Rivers State Government, Sir Kenneth Kobani, lauded Wike for his commitment to the development of Ogoni land.
He assured the governor of the support of Ogoni people in his future political endeavours.
Highpoint of the occasion was conferment of a chieftaincy title on Wike by the Gokana Traditional Rulers Council.
