The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that those who are calling for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election ahead of 2019, despite the President’s health challenges, are his real enemies.
A Chieftain of the APC and a Senatorial candidate, Prince Yemi Emiko, who narrowly missed becoming the Olu of Warri, a revered stool currently occupied by his brother, made this assertion in a recent interview.
This came against the backdrop of the clamour for ailing Buhari, to go for a second term in 2019, by his die-hard supporters.
Recall, that most Northerners, coupled with the National Chairman of the APC, John Oyegun; and Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi; have recently been in the news, for flying Buhari’s Presidential flag, ahead of 2019.
While describing them as insensitive and selfish, Prince Yemi called on Buhari’s Praise Singers, to have a rethink.
“You have already seen that he is not functioning like he used to. He has not been able to attend some Federal Executive Council meetings for the third time running.
“The man is obviously having health challenges. And anybody with such health issues, can hardly function optimally. You won’t be able to run the government the way you used to do.
Buhari is not a young man. So, it has to be his health first. Frankly, I believe that those urging him to run for 2019, are his enemies.
“They are not his friends, because if you see a man struggling to complete his first term, due to health challenges, and you are pushing him to run for a second tenure, then you want to kill him. Therefore, I don’t think they are his friends, and I don’t subscribe to that. Buhari is not a child; he knows his health challenges better.
“Those pushing him, are merely doing so for their selfish gains. Therefore, my advice to him, is that he should look into himself, consider his health challenges and take care of that first. He should speak with God and sincerely, and specially so in the best interest of Nigerians.
“Because come to think of it, are we going to have a President who can’t even attend meetings in Aso Rock in Abuja for another term? He should come up and say, ‘yes, guys I have had it’, and adopt the Nelson Mandela option of one term.
