A combined team of military troops, policemen and operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been drafted to the major roads of Biogbolo, Opolo and Okutukutu as the attack on Igbo residents and traders entered the second day in Bayelsa State.
The attack, which started on Monday was triggered by the death of one Faith, 18, who was said to have been lured into an hotel by one Tochukwu who allegedly stabbed her while trying to cut off her breast.
It was gathered that residents of the area were irked over the development and mobilised to attack Igbo traders. However, policemen drafted to the area were able to stop the irate residents.
But, Opolo and Biogbolo youths mobilised yesterday morning and attacked Igbo traders, destroying goods and property while some hoodlums seized the opportunity to loot. An attempt by some Igbo traders to resist the attack resulted into a full blown clash with Opolo and Biogbolo youths brandishing dangerous weapons and chased out the Igbo residents.
Meanwhile, the state government has ordered a security reinforcement and deployment of soldiers to ensure peace returns to the area.
Policemen were seen removing barricade mounted by the angry youths, while soldiers had been deployed to Tombia roundabout.
Also, it was gathered that a meeting that would include the chiefs, youth groups and Igbo community leadership would be convened soon.
