Eminent businessman and former governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, will on Thursday and Friday, deliver lectures at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) .
Kalu, who has carved a niche in business and leadership is billed to pres-ent a paper titled: “Culture, leadership and higher education in Nigeria ” at the UNN.
In a statement signed by the Dean, Faculty of Arts, UNN, Professor Christian Onyeji, “the lecture is designed to discuss how contemporary developments in leadership, governance and higher education have eroded our core values and hindered self actualisation in Nigeria.”
He said Kalu is expected to present his views on the standard of higher education in Nigeria, arising from his experiences as an active leader and entrepreneur in Nigeria.
Disclosing what informs the choice of guest lecturers, Onyeji said “nomination for the intellectual exercise is usually reserved for those with passion and interest in education, human development and youth empowerment.”
In all these, he added, “Dr Orji Uzor Kalu is among the most fitting Nigerians who have combined leadership, governance and entrepreneurship with enviable successes.
“He has been adjudged the best to deliver this year’s lecture to draw requisite response and interest from the public, being a strong representative of success in entrepreneurship and leadership,” he stated.
Kalu, who is presenting a lecture at UNN for the second time in three years would be speaking to participants drawn from all walks of life.
The organisers said the university community and students were looking forward to the lecture which will hold in the University main auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public .
Similarly, the former governor is expected to chair the 2017 Faculty of Arts International Conference at UNIZIK, Awka, on Thursday. The theme of the conference is “The Humanities and Change Management.”
The letter of invitation co-signed by the Dean, Faculty of Arts, UNIZIK, Professor Tracie Utoh-Ezeajugh and Local Organising Committee Chairman, Rev. Fr. Dominic Obielosi, noted that the conference had, in the past, featured renowned Nigerians such as Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, Ambassador Ralph Uwechue, Senator David Mark, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Prof. Charles Soludo, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and Professor Barth Nnaji as key note speakers and chairmen.
Kalu, in the letter, was described as a famous statesman and administrator whose distinguished presence in the conference will be invaluable.
