An Abakaliki Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Magistrate Nnachi Olughu, on Friday ordered that an octogenarian, Oko Orim, be remanded in the Abakaliki Federal Prison for allegedly biting a man to death, Punch Metro reports.
In a suit, numbered MAB/225/ 2017, the accused, who was arraigned on one count of murder, was said to have bitten one Nkama Idam, to death on March 22, 2017, in Amuzu Ezeke, in the Ezza-South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State during a fracas.
It was gathered that the victim died two days later in a hospital in the town as a result of the bite.
The charge read, “That you, Oko Idam Orim, on March 22, 2017, at Amuzu Ezeke, Abakaliki, in the Abakaliki Magisterial District, did give a bite to one Nkama Idam and caused his death, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 319 (1 ) of the Criminal Law Code Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State, Nigeria, 2009.”
The magistrate said the matter was beyond the jurisdiction of the court and ordered that the accused be remanded, while the case file should be transferred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned till May 5, 2017, for report of compliance.
