Ten persons have been killed in Katsina-Ala and Ukum local government areas of Benue State, Punch Metro reports.
In Katsina-Ala, five persons were beaten to death on Wednesday night while the other five victims were killed on Thursday night at Ayati Village in Ukum LGA by unknown gunmen.
A resident of the area said, “Around 8pm on Thursday, some armed men rode on motorcycles into Ayati, positioned themselves at a junction and started shooting sporadically at anyone in sight. Sadly, a woman, who was going for a wake keep, was hit by a bullet and she died instantly.
“Several other persons sustained various degrees of injury while the deceased persons have been deposited at the morgue of the general hospital in the area.”
Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, Moses Yamu, who confirmed the killing in the two communities, said no arrest had been made but that investigation was ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
