A 27-year-old trader, Omobolanle Awoyeye, on Friday pleaded with an Agege Customary Court to dissolve her seven-year-old marriage over constant battering by her husband.
Omobolanle, a mother of two, resides at No. 16, Olowo St., Dopemu, a Lagos suburb, described her husband, Awokunle Awoyeye, as stubborn.
“My husband is stubborn and abusive. There is nobody he cannot insult, including my family members.
“He feels insecure and he always threatens me and calls me a prostitute.
“This year alone, my husband has beaten me about 10 times,” Omobolanle told the court.
She urged the court to dissolve the union, saying
“I am no longer interested in the marriage.”
She also accused the husband of abandoning her and the children.
Omobalanle, however, asked the court to direct the husband to take full responsibility for the children’s education and upkeep.
The respondent, Awoyeye, 38, a resident of Kadiri Street, off Oniwaya, Dopemu, denied the allegations.
Awoyeye, a baker, told the court that he was responsible and had been taking care of his wife and children to the best of his ability.
The husband, who said he no longer trusted his wife, described her as a philanderer.
“She stole my money and gave it to her ex-boyfriend, I was angry and l beat her.
“She has since moved out of my house in September 2016.”
The President of the court, Mr Philip Williams, adjourned the case to March 28 for judgment.
