A magistrate in charge of Ihiaagwa Magistrate Council in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state, B. U Adikibe, who was abducted by kidnappers in Imo state has been rescued.
She was rescued by security operatives after reportedly spending 48 hours in the forest.
According to Punch, the female magistrate was on March 15, allegedly abducted by gunmen on the Owerri – Port Harcourt Expressway on her way home after close of work.
The jurist’s driver who was equally kidnapped was later released by the gunmen who established contacts with her family, demanding N2m as the condition for her freedom.
But speaking to our correspondent on Friday, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Andrew Enwerem, said that the magistrate had been rescued unhurt and reunited with her family.
A Deputy Superintendent of Police, Enwerem, who disclosed that no ransom was paid for her release, said that the operatives of the command rescued her in an undisclosed forest.
According to him, the manhunt for the arrest of the suspected kidnappers had commenced because the victim had described them to the police.
