A Nigerian senator, once caught sleeping during the Senate plenary, has signed the bail bond of Andrew Yakubu, a former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporaion General Managing Director
arrested after $9.7million was found in his house.
Although Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC reportedly sought a remand order to keep Mr Yakubu for two weeks pending the conclusion of investigation, sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that the senator, Danjuma Laah, had filled the bail documents for the release of Mr Yakubu.
Mr Laah was elected on the platform of PDP. Apart from Mr Laah, sources said there is also “a retired army general” among those trooping to EFCC office seeking the release of the former NNPC helmsman.
Last month, Council of lmams and Ulama in Kaduna State called on the federal and Kaduna State governments to arrest Mr Laah for alleged inciting remarks over the Southern Kaduna crisis.
Mr Laah, 56, is also a regular visitor to Mr Yakubu’s Unguwan Wakili residence in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
