Suspected Boko Haram terrorists in a convoy of vans and motorcycles have taken over Sasawa town in Yobe State after fierce battle with the Nigerian troops on Sunday.
Sasawa is about 30 kilometres from Damaturu, the state capital.
Sources in the town told DAILY NIGERIAN that the insurgents came in droves on Sunday evening and sacked the troops stationed in the town.
It was gathered that residents scampered for safety as the terrorists detonated explosive devices and fired gunshots sporadically.
Details are still sketchy but credible sources said heavy casualty was recorded from both sides.
