Manchester United have honoured Wayne Rooney with a trophy for becoming the club’s record goalscorer. United’s FA Cup fourth round tie at home to Wigan Athletic was the first game to be played at Old Trafford since Rooney broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s long standing club record.
He swung in an exceptional free kick in the Premier League draw at Stoke City to chalk up goal number 250 for the Red Devils.
Rooney received a golden boot – not to be confused with the Golden Boot presented to the Premier League top scorer each season – before kick off on Sunday afternoon.
Rooney reached the landmark figure from 545 United games, during which time he has won the Champions League, FA Cup and five Premier League titles.
