Man nabbed by EFCC for swindling a New Zealand national of $267,000

A graduate of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, Akintunde Vincent Abiodun, 37, was  arraigned by the EFCC yesterday before Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of Lagos State High Court, Ikeja. On charges bordering on forgery and obtaining money by false pretence.

D. Bonnici was defrauded of 267,000 New Zealand Dollars by Abiodun while posing as Christopher Williams from United Kingdom on a dating platform.

She said the accused started collecting money with tales of possession of gemstones worth $18,050,000, inherited from his father. Furthermore she stated Akintunde sweet talked her into believing he was coming to New Zealand to settle down with her.

Bonnici claims money sent to Abiodun were received in Malaysia and Nigeria by persons bearing Norisha, Jalan Klan and Mohammed Haizam Bin Fauzin, alleged friends of Akintunde.

The defendent however pleaded not guilty to the 14 charges read to him. Justice Ipaye dismissed the bail application, ordered the defendant remanded in Prison and adjourned the caseto March 7 and 8 for trial.
