The cult members, who took the decision unanimously on Saturday at the Umuagwo Police Division in the presence of Ilile community chiefs, vowed not to return to crime.
The leader of the group, Obinna Ononogbo, said their decision was aimed at ensuring the restoration of peace in the land.
He said having renounced their membership of the cult group through the state government’s amnesty programme, they were now interested in collaborating with security agencies, in order to rid the community of all manner of criminal activities.
Another ex-cult member, Friday Ukpabi, maintained that no amount of pressure would make them go back to their old life.
He, however, complained that since they embraced the amnesty programme, they had not been paid.
He appealed to the Divisional Police Officer to supply them with the security apparatus to support the police in their anti-crime efforts in the state.
Receiving the group, the DPO of Umuagwo Police Division, Ikembuchukwu Abugu, commended them for their resolve to live a new life and ensure peace in the land.
On the amnesty programme, the DPO appealed to them to exercise patience with the government, assuring them of police support in benefitting from the programme.
He expressed satisfaction with benefiting reduction in Ohaji area, adding that such situation had earned them recommendations.
